St.
Patrick’s, Kinkora
Dear
Parishioners: Following is a summary of our current fund raising activities.
As
an effort to involve the youth of the community we have asked the youth to
collect pop cans to raise money for our church restoration.
The price of scrap aluminum has been, and continues to be quite high.
Pop cans can be dropped off in front of the parish hall.
Any large amounts of cans can be collected by volunteers,
please call
Tony DeGroot at 393-6480. They will
be collected from the hall by volunteers, who will crush them and store them
until a load has been collected. They
will then be taken to London where a higher price is usually realized over local
scrap yards. Please remember that
we need only aluminium cans and any steel or other metals mixed in with the load
would cause problems. Our
first load to London realized a profit of approximately $2,300.00.
Great work everyone!
Mr. Joe Leyser has generously donated a bin(s) and
trucking to haul the scrap metal, pipes, etc. that we are removing from under
the church floor to London. In
addition anyone who has scrap steel, cast iron, stainless steel or used electric
motors (or new) to donate to the church can call Don Boyd at 393-6977.
Don has agreed to co-ordinate collection of these items.
One of our parishioners has requested one of the old cast iron radiators
to use as a garden sculpture. These
are available for a limited time at a price of $100.00 (the approximate scrap
value). Call Tom McLaughlin at
393-5695 if you wish one of these radiators.
We
all have those events to attend where the invitation states “ no gifts
please”, but we feel obliged to bring something. If you are holding one
of these events, a birthday party,12 ½, 25th, 50th, or any anniversary, or even
a family reunion, the Fun’d Raising Committee has the perfect solution for
you. Ask your invited guests to consider making a donation to the Church
Restoration Fund, in lieu of gifts. We have a beautiful replica of our
church façade, attached to a donation box that we can arrange to have at your
event. In the past this idea has helped to raise substantial
amounts of money. To book the “Little Church” call Tom & Liz
Mclaughlin at 393-5695.
Remember
that lamp that Aunt Gladys gave you, that never really fit in with your décor,
or that antique table you inherited from Uncle Bert? What about that piece
of machinery that sits in the corner of your shed never used. If we look
we probably all have items like these taking up space in attics, basements, or
sheds. Sometimes these items are too good to go to a garage sale.
Let us sell them with a commission to go to the Restoration fund, or donate the
entire item. We will hold a consignment sale in the spring of 2005 so if
you have any of these items please let one of the members of the fun’d raising
committee know, so we can get an idea of how many items we may have.
Our
committee has been blessed in the past with many dedicated members, who have
contributed much in the way of time, treasures, & talents towards raising
funds to restore our church building. Some people have found it necessary
to retire from the committee, after many years, to attend to other commitments.
We are currently looking for new committee members. If you feel you have
time or abilities to offer please contact Father Peter at the rectory, or Tom
McLaughlin at 393-5695.
Members of the Fun’d Raising committee are: Tom McLaughlin, Tony & Christine DeGroot, Harry & Michelle Hulman, Pat & Sharon Walsh, Howard & Marie Hallam, Melissa Baes, Shawn & Monique Huitema, Tami DeWetering.
