The Body & Blood of Christ

June 14th, 2009

The Body & Blood of Christ…

Pope John Paul II reminded us that in commemorating the solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, the Church “does not only celebrate the Eucharist but solemnly bears it in procession, publicly proclaiming that the sacrifice of Christ is for the salvation of the whole world.” We rejoice in this post-Easter expression of our Eucharistic affection in order to deepen our attachment to the unique and unending Event that transforms our lives. As the Sequence for Corpus Christi begs: “Jesu, of your love befriend us,/ You refresh us, you defend us,/ Your eternal goodness send us/ In the land of life to see.”

Sacred Heart of Jesus…

June 19: In the devotion to the Sacred Heart, the heart of Jesus is adored as a symbol of his threefold love: human love, spiritual love and divine love. In the Old Testament, this love is described as a father’s love for his children or a husband’s for his wife. In the New Testament, the promise of living water, the Holy Spirit, is fulfilled in the pierced heart of the Messiah. By the Middle Ages, the Heart of Jesus was the object of a more personal devotion and in the late 17 century, the devotion became a liturgical cult. In modern times, the image of the Sacred Heart in the home has become a sign that the love of Jesus rules over the family. In 1899, Pope Leo XIII consecrated the world to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Immaculate Heart of Mary…

June 20: The devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary is closely linked with that to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Although popular devotion began in the 17th century, it was in 1805 that permission was given for a feast of the Pure Heart of Mary and in 1944 the feast was instituted in the Western Church. Since then, the popes have on numerous occasions consecrated the whole world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Mary’s sanctity and her love as the Mother of God are signified by her immaculate heart. In the act of consecration to the Heart of Mary, all that one is and has is entrusted to her.

Bake Sale in Kinkora…

Did you know that Malaria kills thousands more people than HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Measles and Leprosy combined?  Did you know that Malaria is a highly preventable disease that kills over 3,000 children every day and claims up to 3 million lives each year in Africa? Did you know long-lasting insecticide treated bed nets are the most efficient and cost effective way to prevent malaria? On Sunday, June 28th following the 10 am Mass, St. Patrick's, Kinkora CWL will be hosting a Bake Sale with proceeds going towards BUY-A-NET Malaria Prevention Group.  All ladies of the parish are kindly asked to donate two baked items (pies, dozen cookies, dozen tarts, plate of squares, etc.) to be dropped off that morning before Mass. Please support this worthy cause; your generosity is appreciated and will save lives!!
